Dental Care Services for Pets

Prevent dental disease in your pet through regular brushing and routine cleanings.

Dental disease is commonly overlooked in pets even though it is very harmful. Without treatment, it can spread through the bloodstream and cause heart, kidney, and liver disease. There are many ways to prevent the disease, including proper dental hygiene, routine examinations, and cleaning by a veterinarian.

What are signs of dental disease in my pet?

Bad breath is the most common sign of dental disease in pets. Sadly this sign has been normalized, so many pet owners aren’t aware their pet has the disease. Other symptoms of dental problems include:

  • Loose or broken teeth
  • Swollen, red/bleeding gums
  • Changes in eating habits
  • Discoloured teeth
  • Drooling
  • Blood on chew toys

If these are signs you have seen in your pet, please call us at 416-966-1830.

What dental services are offered at your hospital?

We diagnose dental disease, provide treatment and offer professional cleanings. Our veterinarians will examine your pet’s mouth and look for early signs of dental disease. To ensure the dental cleaning is safe and thorough, we use anesthesia. During the cleaning, we perform scaling to remove plaque and tartar on their teeth and below the gum line, we then polish your pet’s teeth. Once the cleaning is completed, our team can recommend dental products to keep their mouth healthy and demonstrate how to brush their teeth at home.

How can I care for my pet’s dental health?

Since professional cleanings are performed annually, your pet’s mouth needs additional care at home. Here are some tips on how to prevent dental disease in between cleanings:

  1. Brush your pet’s teeth. We recommend starting at an early age, so your pet gets used to it. However, it is never too late to start. We can recommend tasty toothpaste and animal-safe toothbrushes to make the experience more bearable for your pet.
  2. Provide dental chews. This helps remove plaque from hard-to-reach areas in your pet’s mouth.
  3. Follow a dental diet. We can create a diet for your pet that reduces stains, tartar, and even gingivitis.
